Postdoctoral research scientist, Department of Materials, University of Oxford (2023 to present)

  • Manage and lead a team of ~6 people to deliver world-leading research in lithium solid-state batteries.
  • Deliver thermodynamics lectures to undergraduate students at the University of Oxford.
  • Filed three patent applications as inventor, working closely with patent lawyers.
  • Lead research on alloy anode and solid electrolyte optimisation.
  • Lead industrial prototyping strategy with Nissan Motors, aligning research development targets with industrial needs and exploiting IP towards commercialisation.
  • Secured funding for summer internships and international facility experiments.
  • Represent projects regularly at senior review meetings and executive boards. National finalist in a UK academic speaking competition.

DPhil, Department of Materials, University of Oxford (2019 to 2023)

  • Developed unique lithium alloy manufacturing and characterisation capabilities, leading to three high impact papers.
  • Chaired the student consultative committee, sat on several university committees, and took part in outreach work.

Other research experience

  • A nine-month project on quantum optical defects, and eight-week summer projects in material mechanics and superconductor synthesis.

Beyond the lab

Strong interest in science policy and broader government reform. Occasional ultra marathon runner. I also build Working with atoms, an open materials science learning resource.
